YOUR FIRST VISIT

What will the first visit look like?

When you arrive, you will be greeted by one of our Patient Care Coordinators, who will assist you in completing necessary paperwork and information.  You should plan to arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to your first scheduled visit with your physical therapist.  This will allow you and the Patient Care Coordinator ample time to go over your medical benefits and complete the necessary medical history and survey forms, which will help the physical therapist better understand your condition during the evaluation process.  Please bring your insurance card(s) and drivers’ license/ID, so we can make a copy for your chart.  If you have a physical therapy referral form from your doctor, please bring that as well.
Next, you will be evaluated by one of our licensed physical therapists.  During this time, they will listen to your explanation of the problem you are concerned with and the reason for your visit.  Once they have gathered enough information from you about your problem, they will proceed into a physical examination.  This will consist of a series of movement tests and positions that will help them give you an assessment of your condition.  After you have been evaluated, treatment may begin immediately on that day.  They will also give you important instructions on how to better care for your condition with exercises and/or activity modifications.

A plan of care will be given to you at the conclusion, which will include a number of problems that may be contributing to your condition and what your physical therapy treatment plan will look like.

You should dress in comfortable, loose fitting attire, so that movement will not be restricted by your clothing.  If you are here for your knee, then we suggest that you wear or bring a pair of shorts.  If you are an athlete or a runner, it is also recommended that you bring in your running shoes or cleats to help the therapist assess how these may affect your condition.

We would also encourage you to bring in any copies of x-rays, MRI's, or surgical reports that you have that are related to your current condition.  This information is usually very helpful in allowing the therapist to correlate your clinical exam to your imaging results.
